DEVELOPMENT IS A JOURNEY 

Players develop at different rates and in different ways. The Gahanna Basketball Academy is designed to identify where each player is today, determine what they need next and provide a pathway that supports continued growth.

TWO PATHWAYS. ONE ACADEMY. 

Every Academy player receives intentional instruction and opportunities to develop. The pathway may look different based on the player’s current competitive readiness and the roster opportunities available during that season. 

Readiness determines the level. Opportunity determines the roster. Development remains the goal. 

Player readiness is evaluated using multiple forms of evidence—not a single score or one moment of performance. Coaches consider measurable basketball skills, basketball understanding, live competitive play and coachability to develop a complete picture of each player. 

PLACEMENT IS MORE THAN A SCORE 

Competitive readiness describes the level of competition a player is prepared for. Season placement reflects the actual roster opportunity available. A player may demonstrate competitive readiness and still participate through the Blue Shirt pathway when an appropriately matched roster opportunity is not available. 

The goal is not to place a player on the highest possible roster. The goal is to place each player in the environment that creates the most meaningful development. 

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES 

Development does not stop when a player is placed on a roster or assigned to a pathway. Players continue to train, compete and grow throughout the season, with coaches evaluating progress and identifying the skills and habits each player needs next.
